Amazon contributes to one million meals across the Arab World this Ramadan for the second year

Today, Amazon announced that it will provide more than one million meals to support families in need across Egypt, the UAE, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia during the Holy month of Ramadan. The programme, now in its second year, provided volunteering opportunities for hundreds of Amazon employees working alongside food bank and charity partners to pack food boxes at Amazon’s Fulfillment Centres across the region. Leveraging Amazon’s scale, the company is supporting the community and delivering the boxes to those who need it most.

Through Amazon’s network, one million meals will be delivered to underprivileged families in the safety of their homes across the Arab World. In partnership with the Egyptian Food Bank, Amazon will provide thousands of boxes containing essential food items to Egyptian communities. Amazon will use its Fulfillment Centres across the region to pack the needed groceries, as well as its vast logistics and delivery network to distribute them across Egypt.

Mohsen Sarhan, CEO of the Egyptian Food Bank, said “We are always keen to partner with entities to serve our primary role of providing healthy and safe food for those most in need. Our partnership with Amazon Egypt enhances our continuous efforts to help alleviate the challenges faced by families without food, especially during the month of Ramadan, which is one of our most important periods.”

Omar Elsahy, General Manager, Amazon Egypt said: “Since our launch in Egypt last year, we have been striving to stay close to our customers and bring them what they need in the comfort of their homes. In the spirit of giving during the holy month of Ramadan, we are humbled by the opportunity to utilise our network as well as our employee strength to reach out to the less fortunate families in our communities. Amazon has a longstanding commitment of working alongside community partners, so we are delighted to continue our work with the Egyptian Food Bank to help get more than one million meals, including essential grocery items, into the hands of those who need them the most throughout the month of giving. As we fulfill our promise of creating a great place to work, we continue to create programmes that enable employees to give back to the community.”

This Ramadan campaign is a part of the company’s global community engagement pillar, Right Now Needs, that seeks to eliminate the impossible choices posed by poverty, homelessness, hunger, and natural disasters. This pillar is one of many in Amazon’s community engagement programme.
