Recommendations of the Institute of National Planning’s International Conference

At the end of the International Conference “Governance and Sustainable Development,” held by the Institute of National Planning on June 3-4, Professor. Ashraf El-Araby, the President of the Institute of National Planning, announced the following recommendations that emerged from the conference:

• Governance levels and forms are diverse, including public governance, corporate governance, multi-level governance, economic governance, environmental governance, etc. Therefore, it is necessary to focus on achieving their various types and levels as governance is not just about institutions, but also about their quality and efficiency.
• There is a positive impact of strengthening the governance levels on the effectiveness of the sustainable development goals.
• It is essential to have a sufficient data in order to have a good management.
• It’s not only about educating people about the governance and sustainable development, its more about making them believe in it. By following this, we can see the real transformations.
• There is no single “recipe” for all countries, as it is not necessary that implementing the same reforms or following the same international recommendations could lead to the same results. This is due to the variances of its economic, social, and environmental conditions. Therefore, the planning reforms should be formulated in light of its current and related conditions.
• Global complexities and the associated state of uncertainty highlights the importance of anticipation, prediction, and more efficient and effective action in times of crises. These include rapid developments in emerging technologies, currency collapses and financial disruptions, the Russo- Ukrainian war, and the climate change crisis.
• The good governance requires a proper dissemination of information supported with free circulation as well. This is to facilitate decision-making process.
• Flexibility, inclusiveness, preparedness, responsiveness, responsibility, cooperation, and transparency are essential factors in achieving a good governance and in combating corruption.
• The government cannot take the responsibility alone, but there must be cooperation between all partners. It is necessary to divide the roles among the governments, private sector institutions, and civil society.
• Artificial intelligence, awareness-raising, capacity-building, and youth empowerment all play an important role in having a good governance.
• There is a gap in research and studies related to the link between governance and digital transformation.
