A 13-old Egyptian kid invented a robotic cinema chair in collaboration with the Egyptian Autistic Society and VOX Cinemas

Meet Hassan Watani, the young innovator who made a dream come true

The Egyptian Autistic Society is supporting a 13 years old child, Hassan Watani who invented a robotic cinema seat made for children with conditions such as autism. This collaboration comes in line with Egypt’s vision of supporting and integrating special abilities within the society, in cooperation with the private sectors and civil society institutions, to achieve the sustainable development plan and Egypt’s vision 2030.

From dream to reality, the journey of Hassan Watani created an ideal solution for cinema lovers through a robotic cinema chair, as they can request any food or beverage without having to leave their place. Hassan’s mother role came to bring his idea to light and turn his dream into reality with the collaboration of the Egyptian Autistic Society. In line with Majid Al Futtaim’s mission to create great moments for everyone, every day, VOX Cinemas invited Hassan to experience 4DX for the first time back in March.

Fast forward today and Hassan is now set to showcase his specially designed cinema chair. The Egyptian Autistic Society’s founder and president, Dr. Dahlia Soliman, explained that children with autism have great capabilities that should be showed off to include them into the society, playing a vital role in reaching prosperity. She added that the association reaches out to a large number of companies and institutions, in order to support projects developed by youth and children with special abilities. “Supporting this project will encourage many children with special abilities to innovate new projects that will contribute to improve and enhance wellbeing.” Stated Majid Al Futtaim Group.

The Egyptian government, has established the national council for persons with disabilities as well as a fund for the disabled persons, in addition to issuing a bill to protecting the rights of the people with special needs and all the legislation that has been issued to support them, meeting their needs and facilitate their integration into the society.

In turn, Eng. Salah Al Abd, the famous robotics engineer, and the one who was responsible for the manufacturing of the technical part of the world’s first “Ai-Da” robot, stated that the sector has witnessed a huge development recently.
“In Flux, we always aim to create a huge impact through the use of technology, we started our journey by enhancing the technical capabilities of “Ai-Da”, the world’s first female robot artist who organize her own exhibitions around the world. Our passion for innovation enhanced in many fields since achieving many successes, to turn the dream into reality.” Eng. Salah Al Abd said.

Al Abd, who holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Leeds in England in this field, added that he is always keen on supporting and helping people with special needs, assuring that The Egyptian Autistic Society has agreed to manufacture “a robotic chair” with him after holding a competition to know the capabilities and skills of autistic people, in which “Hassan” took part in it by designing a robotic cinema chair to help him fulfil his needs.

He added that the robotic cinema chair will be registered under the name of Hassan to ensure his right in this project.
