Credit Agricole Egypt has obtained the LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for its new “Madinaty Open-Air Mall” branch, marking the first retail branch for a bank to receive it in Egypt. The award recognizes the branch’s adherence to rigorous standards and criteria across various categories such as location, materials, indoor quality, innovation, and more.

LEED is a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement and leadership, where LEED-certified buildings are designed to minimize the use of energy and water, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and create healthier environments for employees.

The certification process for Credit Agricole branch was a challenging yet rewarding journey, demanding meticulous attention to detail and unwavering adherence to the stringent standards outlined by the LEED rating system. Every facade of the branch’s design and construction was examined to ensure the highest sustainability standards were met. Additionally, Credit Agricole placed paramount importance on integrating sustainable strategies and cutting-edge technologies from the branch’s inception to its completion. The commitment to implementing a wide array of sustainable solutions was solid, reflecting Credit Agricole’s dedication to minimizing its environmental impact and nurturing a green and sustainable future.

The ripple effects of LEED certification extended beyond the environmental realm, transforming the work environment for employees and customers alike. Incorporating natural light, efficient ventilation, and thoughtfully designed green spaces, the branch achieved a harmonious and comfortable ambiance. This transformation enhanced employees’ productivity and elevated customers’ satisfaction, fostering an overall sense of well-being within the community.

Jean-Pierre Trinelle, Managing Director, Credit Agricole Egypt said: “At Credit Agricole Egypt, we prioritize environmental responsibility as a crucial part of our commitment to the community and future generations. We are in alignment with Credit Agricole group’s mission to combat climate change and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 on our own footprint and on our investment and financing portfolios. This is evidenced by our active participation in the net zero banking alliance.”

He added: “Our headquarters received the LEED certification in 2016, and today we are proud to be the first bank in Egypt with a LEED-certified branch. It illustrates our social responsibility towards environmental protection, sustainable development and our team members wellbeing. We recognize the importance of combating climate change through reducing our direct carbon footprint.  We are determined to certify more branches by LEED going forward. The pursuit of LEED certification underscores our dedication to environmental and social responsibility aligning with Credit Agricole Group’s commitments.”
