DP World Sokhna recorded its highest-ever monthly container throughput in August 2026, handling 141,041 TEU, up 45% year-on-year and approximately 36% above the previous monthly record of 103,752 TEU, set in January 2026. In a separate operational achievement, the terminal also set a new record for the daily discharge rate of Iron Ore Pellet Feed, reducing vessel discharge time by 58 hours.
In August, transshipment accounted for 87,149 TEU of the terminal’s total throughput, representing 61.9% of total monthly volumes, amid changing trade patterns and growing demand for transshipment services through Sokhna.
This performance reflects the terminal’s ability to respond to changing trade flows and customer requirements while maintaining operational efficiency and fluidity. To accommodate these changes, operations teams continuously adapted yard management strategies to occupancy levels and cargo movements, while reallocating resources and equipment to match shifting flow patterns. The terminal also leveraged its digital systems to enhance truck flow efficiency. Equipment reliability, along with close coordination among operations, engineering, commercial teams, and customers, supported smooth operations as transshipment volumes increased.
In a second operational achievement, DP World Sokhna set a new record for the daily discharge rate of Iron Ore Pellet Feed while handling MV SEA PUMA.
DP World Sokhna discharged a total of 152,602 metric tons of cargo at a gross discharge rate of 41,619 metric tons per day, while the net discharge rate reached 42,097 metric tons per day. The gross discharge rate represents a new record for iron ore discharge for this vessel type.
As a result of the higher discharge rate, the vessel was discharged in 88 hours, saving 58 hours of vessel discharge time.
Mohammad Shihab, CEO – DP World Egypt, said: “The performance achieved at Sokhna in August reflects our ability to respond with agility to changing trade flows and customer requirements. Achieving our highest-ever monthly container throughput, with transshipment accounting for 61.9% of total volumes, demonstrates our ability to adapt our operations and strategies to meet our customers’ requirements. At the same time, the new iron ore discharge record highlights the breadth of our operational capabilities and the effective coordination across our teams at the terminal. We will continue to focus on efficiency, reliability, and the use of technology to support the smooth flow of trade and enhance customer experience at Sokhna.”
Together, these achievements demonstrate the scale and versatility of operations at DP World Sokhna. The terminal has demonstrated its ability to manage significant growth in container volumes and changing transshipment patterns, while also delivering high levels of productivity in bulk cargo handling. This highlights the terminal’s ability to respond to different cargo and customer requirements while supporting more efficient trade flows through Sokhna.
