Swiss Chamber of Commerce Hosts Talk on Innovating Global Supply Chains

As part of its commitment to furthering economic and commercial cooperation between Egypt and Switzerland, The Swiss Chamber of Commerce in Egypt organized a roundtable discussion titled ‘Responsible Management in International Supply Chains’.

The event that took place on Tuesday, Dec 19th at the Swiss Embassy’s International Cooperation Office in Cairo provided a platform to address the challenges and innovative approaches to managing international supply chains.

The round table was chaired by President of SwissCham Kamal Abdel Malek  with the participation of Professor Dr. Christian Hauser, Professor of Business Economics and International Management at the University of Applied Sciences in Grisons, Switzerland, as keynote speaker and was honored by the presence of H.E. Yvonne Baumann, Swiss Ambassador to Egypt. The event brought together key SwissCham members and influential   private industry figures as well as representatives of major Swiss companies operating in the Egyptian market, the most important of which are:

Commenting on the event, Kamal Abdel Malek, President of the SwissCham in Egypt said: “Responsible supply chain management is crucial in modern business, as it blends lessons and best practices for sustainable, ethical operations. It enhances resilience, builds trust, and upholds environmental and social responsibility, redefining excellence in business and contributing positively to the international business community.”

The roundtable discussion comes as a part of a series of events highlighting the SwissCham’s role in supporting the business community by hosting sessions on key topics, aiding in overcoming business challenges. They bring international experts who impart knowledge about innovative trends and practices, like in supply chain management. This empowers the business community to stay abreast of advancements and enhance their operations effectively. SwissCham is also committed to stimulate trade and investment relations and enhance mutual understanding and cooperation between Egypt and Switzerland.

In her introductory remarks, Ambassador Yvonne Baumann underlined the general trend towards more stringent corporate responsibility requirements on a European as well as national level in Switzerland and discussed recent global supply chain pressures and disruptions.

Commenting on the opportunities and challenges facing companies to ensure effective supply chains across their operations, Dr. Christian Hauser said: “The increasing public pressure and regulatory requirements force companies to ensure responsible management not only within their institutions but also in their international supply chains. Success in addressing complex challenges along international supply chains requires actions from companies and their suppliers. Therefore, today’s roundtable focused on showcasing opportunities and different methods for large companies, as well as micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, to ensure responsible management in various supply chain groups.”
