Careem Egypt launches «Ride fel Kheir» initiative

Careem Egypt, the leading internet platform in technology and smart transport services, launched the “Ride fel Kheir” initiative during the holy month of Ramadan that allows customers to pay an additional EGP 3 every time they book a ride with Careem Egypt, which will be donated to the Egyptian Food Bank and Baheya Foundation for Early Detection and Treatment of Breast Cancer.

The “Ride Fel Kheir” service is another ride type that Careem Egypt offers to its customers at a competitive price, and will only be available during the holy month of Ramadan.

Haitham Essam, General Manager of Careem Egypt said: “We are pleased with our partnership with the Egyptian Food Bank and Baheya Foundation for Early Detection and Treatment of Breast Cancer, which allows us to provide various types of support to underprivileged citizens and to support women to continue their journey in breast cancer treatment.”

Essam added: “At Careem, we pay great attention to corporate social responsibility and we consider it an important part of our business. We encourage employees to participate in charitable work and allow our customers to donate to NGOs through the Careem Rewards Program available on our platform.”

A prime example was our partnership with the Egyptian Food Bank, which allowed our employees to volunteer their time to prepare Ramadan Bags, which the Egyptian Food Bank distributes nationwide to eligible families during the holy month. In addition, Careem employees donated to provide Iftar and Suhoor meals to families in need.

Mohsen Sarhan, Chief Executive Office of Egyptian Food Bank, said: “The cooperation between the government and the private sectors, together with the civil society is the basis for achieving the sustainable development goals, and enhancing the role of companies in supporting the civil society. Sarhan expressed his happiness to collaborate with Careem in the “Ride Fel Kheir” initiative, which comes as part of the Egyptian Food Bank activities to provide healthy food to families all over Egypt during the holy month of Ramadan.

It is worth mentioning that Baheya Foundation for Early Detection and Treatment of Breast Cancer is one of the main partners of the Careem Rewards Program, which allows our customers to donate their points on the Careem application to Baheya Foundation and other NGOs. Baheya Foundation and Careem also cooperated in raising awareness on breast cancer among the female employees and captains during last October.

Commenting on the cooperation, Dr. Jaylan Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of Baheya Foundation for Early Detection and Treatment of Breast Cancer said that Baheya Foundation is always keen to fruitfully collaborate with various organizations, and with Careem Egypt in particular and to support all women of Egypt through raising awareness on the early detection of breast cancer and the ways to cure it. Dr. Jaylan added: We had organized awareness sessions for Careem’s female employees and captains in Egypt regarding the early detection of the disease, and Careem, on the other hand, is always keen to provide charitable and moral support to Baheya Foundation due to their sincere belief in its role towards all women of Egypt”.

Baheya Foundation has welcomed 180,000 women with breast cancer and has provided them with medical care since March 2015. Baheya is also always keen on spreading awareness, providing early detection and free treatment for women, as well as providing psychological and moral support to Baheya’s breast cancer patients. The foundation is in the process of establishing a second branch in the Sheikh Zayed area in order to welcome and support half a million women annually.

Dr. Jaylan also extended her thanks and gratitude to every individual and institution who are interested in contributing to the community, and to Careem in particular. She praised the idea of the initiative that raises awareness on the early detection of breast cancer and gives Careem customers the opportunity to know more about Baheya Foundation and the importance of early detection of the disease, which contributes to achieving cure rates that exceed 98%.

Careem began its operations in Egypt in 2014, and currently offers its services in 17 cities, which makes Egypt one of the company’s four largest markets in the region. Between 2015 and 2019, Careem Captains completed 170 million trips, and Careem customers in Egypt donated EGP 600,000 to NGOs through the Careem Rewards program during 2021.
